Mrs. Mfon Ekong Usoro, maritime lawyer and consultant holds a Master degree in Maritime Law from the University College of London. She bagged her LLB from the University of Buckingsham, United Kingdom with a degree in Sociology from the University of Calabar in 1993. She was called to the Nigeria Bar in 1996.

Usoro is the current and first female Secretary General of West and Central Africa Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control, otherwise known as the Abuja MoU.

She is also Managing Partner and Head, Maritime, Environment and Project Management Section of Paul Usoro & Co. A consummate maritime lawyer and industry technocrat, the Federal Government appointed Usoro the pioneer Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and safety Agency (NIMASA) for two years between 2006 – 2007. Usoro holds the membership card to various professional bodies like the Business Law of the Nigeria Bar Association, International Bar Association ITILS Working Group and Maritime Arbitrators Association of Nigeria etc.

she served as the first female CEO of the Nigerian apex maritime regulatory body. She was also, the first Female Secretary General of the Abuja Moll.

She has served in numerous presidential and ministerial committees, both as member and in executive position. In view of her intimidating resume, Usoro has also naturally garnered 28 prizes and awards, both locally and internationally. The awards and prizes include:
⦁ Honourary International Ambassador of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport, International 2012.
⦁ WISTA International Personality of the Year 2011.
⦁ TNT Integrity Maritime Personality of the year, 2009.
⦁ Officer de L’ord de Momo, OOM (Officer of the Order of Mono).

Usoro has also found out time to get involved in humanitarian and charity activities. She is founder of the Girl Child Empowerment Foundation. For her duration as DG NIMASA, Usoro donated her salary to the women for capacity building in the industry. She has also since 2007, sponsored an Annual Prize for the Best Overall Graduate Cadet (HND), of the Maritime Academy of Nigerian (MAN) Oron, in all Usoro tries to abridge the suffering of the indigent in society, by supporting their cause through monetary donations and sponsorship.
