Mrs. Micheal Ukpong holds a Master of Science degree in Transport Studies Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye (formerly Ogun State University). Earlier in 1981, she attended the University of Westminister, London where she bagged a degree as Chartered Statistician (C. Stat). Before she left for London, she obtained a Certificate in Middle level Training Course for Statistical Assistants at the Federal School of Statistics, Ibadan.

An accomplished career technocrat and manager of human resources, Mrs. Ukpong is a reputable professional statistician and is currently working with the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA); where she holds the position of an Assistant General Manager in the interim, however, owing to her pioneering tall credentials, and resourcefulness as a manager level staff, she had at different times worked as alternate port manager, particularly at the then RoRo Port Lagos at various times, in the absence the port Manager.

In 2006, Mrs. Ukpong was also appointed a Terminal Coordinator (Port Manager) of Calabar Port, presided over a workforce of 1200 personnel. Also in 2008, she was deployed to NPA Corporate Headquarters to serve as the head of Corporate and Strategic Planning department.

Remarkably, Mrs. Ukpong distinguished herself in the task of statistical analysis function in various ranks, constantly being given responsibilities in critical statistical analysis. Although she joined NPA as a Senior Statistician in 1983, she rose to become the Head of Department of Statistics at the Container Terminal Port, RoRo Port and Tin Can Island Port between 1991 – 2005.

A competent professional with far reaching occupational integrity and character, Mrs. Ukpong has come handy in critical crisis period, where upon NPA has readily mobilized her expertise and rich managerial experiences into challenging domain within the system as a fire fighter and financial adjuster.

Her professional capability did not go unnoticed, in 2004, she served as a consultant on the Port Sector to World Bank in the Baseline Data Project of Lagos State. This is addition to serving as a consultant to the Cross River State Government in the World Bank Study on implementation of investment climate project 2006 – 2007. In 2007, Mrs. Ukong was contracted to prepare a memorandum for the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly on how improve passenger movement between Orou/Calabar and other West African Countries through improved Ferry Service.

She belong to various professional bodies including Women International Shipping and Trade Association; Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria; Royal Statistical Society of the UKC Professional Fellow; African Statistical Association; Chartered Institute of transport and Logistics; Nigerian Institute of Shipping and Freight Management ; and Nigerian Statistical Association where she was the 1st Vice – President 2003 -2008, and has many awards and prizes in recognition of her contribution to the society.
